Hello. Here is a bit about me.
Herman is well-known for introducing the ‘Friends’ movement into South Africa when he was co-founder of the ‘Friends of Nylsvley’ and their first Chairman. He has also been a member of The Wildlife and Environmental Society of South Africa for more than 30 years.
As a lepidopterist Herman acquired one of the largest personal butterfly collections in private hands, which he donated to the Ditsong Museum of Natural History to use for educational purposes. Amongst the 20 odd books from Herman’s productive pen, is the best-selling ‘SAPPI Birds of South Africa with Callfinder.’ More than 40 000 copies of this remarkable and innovative, world first book had been sold. This book has been on the publisher, Briza’s, top 10 best sellers list each month since its publication in 2014. This book is also a recommended book for African Advanced Academy’s students.
Apart from 6 other books on birding, Herman also shared his knowledge by publishing business related books such as ‘The Seven Secrets of Marketing’, Practical Municipal Public Relations and ‘Etiquette in the Business Environment.’
His Directorships include the Bankseta Board and Microfinance South Africa. When Bankseta was formed in 2003 as the South African sector training authority for the banking sector, Herman was elected as one of its initial Board Members and made a substantial contribution to formalise and develop training in South Africa’s diverse banking sector.
